Environment & Community Development
Environment & Community Development refers to efforts that improve the well-being of communities while protecting and sustaining the natural environment.
What is Environment & Community Development?
It involves activities that create a balanced approach where both people and nature thrive together, ensuring long-term social and ecological well-being.
- Conserving natural resources and managing waste

- Empowering communities through education and sustainable livelihoods
- Building green public spaces and eco-friendly infrastructure
- Examples include tree plantation drives and clean water projects
Tribal Development Program
There is a large tribal population in our district, mainly from the Kani community, who have long lived a neglected life.
- Bringing tribal women together in groups for savings programs
- Educational sponsorships and evening tuition for children
- Awareness programs on alcoholism, education, and environment
- Building strong relationships with tribal families
- Effective implementation of development activities
Strengthening Rural Communities via Capacity Building
Skills and knowledge are important for the economic growth and social progress of any country. To help local women find better job opportunities, SMIDS has focused on building the skills and abilities of village women. This support has helped many start small businesses in various trades including sea shell crafts, palm leaf crafts, soap making, surf making, pickle preparation, goat rearing, and tailoring. These efforts have not only improved their income but also brought confidence and hope to their lives.
Housing for Families Below Poverty Line
Housing is one of the most basic needs of every family. Sadly, many marginalized families are still living in unsafe and broken houses.
- Identifying families most in need of house repairs
- Collecting support from kindhearted people locally and abroad
- Families contribute through materials or labor
- Creating sense of ownership and pride
Land Reclamation
Our environmental initiatives include significant land reclamation projects that transform unproductive land into valuable resources.

Our approach focuses on creating self-sustaining communities that can thrive while protecting their natural environment.
- Promoting eco-friendly livelihood options

- Community-based natural resource management
- Environmental education and awareness
